34th Annual AHCA Seminar & 56th Annual FHEA Meeting & Trade Show

"Back to the Basics of Health Care Design and Construction"

This year, we not only return to one of our favorite hotel venues in Orlando, the Rosen Shingle Creek, a landmark hotel and convention center, but we also return to the basics of health care design and construction. When this event first started over 34 years ago, it was made up of a small gathering of dedicated inspectors, designers, contractors, and facility engineers who came together to help each other design and build better health care environments for the citizens of Florida. This diverse group, of about 50 people, was the first meeting of its kind in the United States. Today, this conference has grown to over 1,000 participants, with over 300 vendors, and attracts nationally and internationally known presenters speaking to the very latest trends in health care.

But we never want to lose sight of what the central focus of this event still is, and that is to design and build the best health care environments in the United States, and perhaps the world, right here in Florida. Because this great effort can only be sustained and invigorated when it is a team effort of teaching and learning how to do this important work, this year, we will concentrate the educational sessions on getting back to the basics of doing things right the first time.

There will be sessions regarding how to design and construct to achieve the required acoustic standards, how to produce a Life Safety Plan that is compliant with every code, how to design a private mode fire alarm system that won’t wake the dead, how to produce a set of construction documents that will never be disapproved by the Office of Plans and Construction, and how to develop a maintenance and testing program that will have the Fire Protection Specialists jumping for joy. There will be sessions about the newly adopted codes and standards because by October, there will be a lot of interpretations and decisions made that will directly effect how the next project is started and how even the project under construction is finished.

The FHEA Trade Show will take place on Monday and Tuesday, October 8-9, 2018, and FHEA Annual Meeting will be Wednesday, October 10, 2018.
